On July 22nd, The Levitt AMP Wooster Music Series will welcome the local rock group The Spirit of the Bear, known for their innovations within the Northeast Ohio music scene. The free outdoor concert will take place on the lawn at Wayne Center for the Arts (WCA), located in downtown Wooster at 237 S. Walnut Street. The lawn will open at 5pm, with music starting at 6pm.
The 5-person Spirit of the Bear started as a high school project between friends in Youngstown, Ohio. Later, band members streamlined this local sound by studying at the Berklee College of Music, Capital University Conservatory of Music, and Blackbird Academy Nashville.
Now based in Columbus, Ohio, Spirit of Bear is redefining the local pop-rock and electronic genres through their “cutting-edge versatility and unique sound”. As leaders in the Ohio indie music community, they regularly perform with other local groups like Judah and the Lion, Ra Ra Riot, and Welshly Arms.
To further celebrate local artistry, attendees are encouraged to come early between 5-6pm to visit WCA’s Fab Lab open house and demo. The brand-new Fab Lab Art Space offers classes in forms not currently accessible to the general public: metalworking, woodworking, stained glass, fused glass, and welding. The open house will allow attendees to explore the Fab Lab’s offerings and watch artistic demonstrations.
During the performance, attendees can enjoy dinner from OmaGourd food truck, which will be onsite. Beverages will also be available for purchase including locally-brewed JAFB beer. Concerts will continue every other Wednesday this summer, featuring the alt-country rocker Brett Newski and the Celtic rock group Tartan Terrors.
