Our Instructors

Halie Arthur
Flute

Halie is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance. During her time at BGSU, she performed with the Philharmonia, Wind Symphony, and several chamber ensembles, developing a passion for both performance and collaboration. With more than four years of experience teaching flute and piccolo, Halie enjoys helping students build their skills, confidence, and love of music while supporting them in reaching their individual goals.

Derek Roland
Guitar

Derek brings years of professional performance and teaching experience to every lesson, helping students build confidence and develop real-world guitar skills. With a background in jazz and rock, he creates personalized lessons that emphasize creativity, practical musicianship, and rapid progress. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your playing to the next level, Derek tailors each lesson to your goals and musical interests.

Tommy Starr
Percussion & Composition

Tommy Starr earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition with Honors from Youngstown State University (2018) and is trained in classical percussion and jazz studies. He works with percussion students to develop both technical skill and musical expression, with an emphasis on physical technique, sound production, and aural training to support lifelong musicianship. In composition, Tommy helps students discover their individual voice and develop ideas into complete works. Through one-on-one instruction, he guides students in shaping concepts into fully realized pieces while encouraging creativity and artistic growth.

Alexis Kelbley (they/them)
Saxophone & Clarinet

Alexis Kelbley is a licensed and credentialed music therapist and a graduate of the College of Wooster. During their time at Wooster, they performed with the Scot Symphonic Band, the Wooster Symphony Orchestra, and the Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association Honors Band. Alexis brings a diverse musical background and a passion for education to their teaching, creating engaging and supportive learning experiences for students of all ages and skill levels

Mary-Marie Deauclaire
Piano

Mary-Marie studied at Valparaiso University and graduated from The American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, where she majored in pipe organ. She has continued her musical work through directing, teaching, and pursuing jazz studies while in California at the community college level, followed by intensive masterclasses and studies at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.

Sharon Grimes
Piano

Sharon Grimes has been playing piano for most of her life and enjoys sharing her love of music with students of all ages. She is currently on staff at the College of Wooster and Ashland University and performs with area high school and middle school choirs. Sharon tailors her lessons to each student’s experience and ability while emphasizing the fundamentals of classical technique and music theory.

Stan Willis
Voice & Piano

Stan Willis is a classically trained singer and educator with a Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) at the University of Cincinnati, as well as a Master’s degree in Administration from Ashland University. He taught choral music, general music, and band in grades K–12 for 37 years, including 27 years at Triway High School. Stan has also served as an Ohio Music Education Association adjudicator for solo and ensemble as well as large group contests for 25 years.

Thor McDonald
Low Brass

Thor McDonald is a graduate of Ashland University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He is in his first year of teaching K–6 general music in the Wadsworth City School District.

Randy Kaserman
Brass, Woodwind, Percussion

Randy Kaserman has been teaching instrumental music for 29 years, including 3 years as Band Director at Canton Central Catholic and the past 26 years as Band Director of Dalton Local Schools. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Mount Union College and has dedicated his career to teaching brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments to students in grades 5–12.

Mike Deyo
Strings

Mike Deyo is a seasoned musician with over 50 years of experience in music and more than two decades of teaching experience. While his primary focus has been classical music, his repertoire also includes a variety of “roots” music traditions. He is proficient in violin, viola, and beginner cello, and is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion with aspiring musicians of all ages.
