High School Art Exhibit Showcases Student Talent from Wayne and East Holmes Counties

Wayne Center for the Arts is proud to host the annual High School Art Exhibit, presented in partnership with the Tri-County Educational Service Center. This long-standing exhibition brings together some of the most talented high school art students from the area, offering them the opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery setting beyond their own classrooms.

This year’s exhibit features work from nine high schools, showcasing 275 pieces of art created by nearly 275 students across 15 categories, highlighting the depth, diversity, and creativity of visual arts education in our region. From drawing and painting to sculpture and mixed media, the exhibit reflects a wide range of techniques, materials, and artistic perspectives.

For Alex Looney, Fine Arts Consultant at the Tri-County Educational Service Center and coordinator of the exhibit, the event is about more than just displaying artwork. It’s also about visibility and recognition.

“Music programs naturally have concerts and performances that bring people in,” Looney said. “With visual art, opportunities like this are so important because they allow the community to see what’s happening in our classrooms.”

Each participating high school art teacher is invited to submit student work across a variety of categories, with pieces evaluated by outside adjudicators. Awards are given for first, second, third, and honorable mention in each category, along with Best of Show honors in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. This year also introduces a new People’s Choice Award, allowing visitors to vote for their favorite piece in the gallery.

“It’s really incredible to see the level of creativity and the quality of work coming out of our schools,” Looney said. “Each piece represents not just talent, but the time, effort, and passion these students are putting into their art.”

The exhibit will conclude with a reception on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 PM at Wayne Center for the Arts, where participating students will be recognized and celebrated alongside their families, teachers, and school communities.

Through this partnership, Wayne Center for the Arts and the Tri-County Educational Service Center continue their shared commitment to supporting arts education and creating meaningful opportunities for young artists to shine.

The Galleries are open during WCA’s regular hours EXCEPT Wednesdays, when the both galleries are closed.
