The lawn at Wayne Center for the Arts lit up on May 27.
Children darted between families with bubble wands and ribbons in hand. Friends gathered and chatted. Food truck lines buzzed with conversation. And as the sun began to set behind our beautiful building on Walnut Street, the electrifying music of Sons of Mystro ran through the crowd.

And just like that, the Levitt AMP Wooster Music Series was underway.
For months, the Wayne Center for the Arts has been planning, organizing, dreaming, and hoping. We knew the artists would be incredible. We knew the lawn would be beautiful. We knew the community would be curious.

But we could only imagine how it all would feel once the day finally came.
Now we know.
It was so joyful and welcoming and filled with color and sound and delicious smells. It was a beautiful reminder of why community matters, why music matters, why gathering together matters.

From the moment Sons of Mystro stepped on stage, the energy shifted. Their electrifying blend of violin, hip-hop, reggae, classical music, and pop quickly drew people closer. Children and grown ups alike danced and clapped and moved their bodies. Audience members clapped along to the rhythm. Neighbors caught up with one another. Complete strangers found themselves sharing a moment together through music.

As golden hour settled over the lawn, the scene truly glowed with beauty.
There were toddlers spinning in circles. Parents dancing with their kids. Friends raising their hands to the music. Conversations happening between songs. Laughter drifting across the crowd. Everywhere you looked, people were connecting. Live music has a way of bringing people together.

This series is about so much more than concerts. It’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome. A place where people from different backgrounds, generations, and walks of life can gather for a shared experience. A place where art, community, and simple summer pleasures meet.

Opening night reminded us that those moments still matter.
It also reminded us that music moves people in more ways than one.

Of course, no community event happens because of one person or one organization alone. We are grateful to Sons of Mystro for launching the season with such extraordinary talent and generosity, to Hey Chicky for keeping concertgoers well-fed, to our volunteers and staff, to all of our sponsors and supporters, and most importantly, to every person who brought a chair, showed up, and helped create the atmosphere that made the evening so memorable.

If opening night was any indication, this summer is going to be something really, really special.
The Levitt AMP Wooster Music Series continues throughout the season with an eclectic lineup of artists, food trucks, lawn activities, and opportunities to gather together in the heart of downtown Wooster.
We’ll save you a spot on the lawn.
