On June 6, 7, and 8, seventeen talented dancers from Wayne Center for the Arts traveled to the Mid-Atlantic Dance Initiative (MADI), a three-day celebration of dance, learning, and connection in Charleston, WV. Ranging in age from 6 to 19, these dancers represented our community with grace, courage, and creativity as they performed solos, variations, duets, and group pieces for adjudication by a panel of respected dance professionals.

Among the standout moments from the weekend, two group pieces earned superior ratings and were selected to perform in the MADI Gala alongside professional dancers—a true honor and an unforgettable experience.
“Sister Suite”, performed by Amelia Linsalata, Nora McPherson, and Ingrid Pycraft, and
“Whisker Whimsey”, featuring Hadley Burchett, Abrielle James, Amelia Linsalata, Ingrid Pycraft, Lennon Rakich, and Embri Wigal, were both recognized for their creativity, performance quality, and strong technical foundation.

Beyond the stage, the weekend was filled with enriching opportunities for our dancers to grow as artists. They participated in two full days of classes, workshops, choreography labs, and forums. These sessions focused on technique, collaboration, improvisation, and even explored how to transition into a career in dance or the arts. It was a chance not only to refine their skills, but to broaden their understanding of the dance world and their place within it.

But perhaps the most meaningful part of the trip was the time spent together. From backstage jitters to post-performance celebrations, from dance classes to candy salads, our dancers strengthened their friendships, supported one another, and discovered the joy of being part of a creative, compassionate, and determined team.

Wayne Center for the Arts is extremely grateful to the Donald and Alice Noble Foundation for supporting the expenses associated with this trip so that ALL dancers, regardless of ability to pay could enjoy this amazing opportunity.
