Welcome to WCA’s Clay Department, a cornerstone of artistic innovation in our region for decades! Our department boasts a distinguished faculty, with instructors who have trained under esteemed artists like Sarah McFarlan, Eva Kwong, and the late Kirk Mangus. This heritage of excellence extends to our longstanding partnership with Ohio Designer Craftsman, hosting the celebrated Functional Ceramics Workshop and Exhibit since the 1970s.

At WCA, we believe in nurturing creativity at every age and skill level. Our diverse classes cater to artists starting as young as 3 years old with programs such as Mudpies (ages 3-5) and Mudlarks (ages 6-9). Older children and teens can explore the art of pottery through specialized courses like Kids’ Wheel and Handbuilding (ages 10-13) and Gen Z Pottery (ages 14-17). For adults new to ceramics, our Potter’s Medley course offers a choice between wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, providing a solid foundation in creating functional pottery.

Classes are scheduled seasonally, beginning in January (Winter-Spring Session), June (Summer Session), and August (Fall Session), ensuring flexibility for all schedules and interests.

Beyond skill development, our Clay Department is a vibrant and welcoming community where artists of all levels come together to collaborate, share ideas, and learn from one another. We foster an environment that encourages creativity and mutual support, making it an ideal space for artistic growth.

For those ready to expand their skills independently, our Pottery Open Studio Membership offers the perfect opportunity. Whether you’re a hobbyist craving uninterrupted creative time, a student seeking additional instruction, or an aspiring professional preparing to sell your work, our memberships provide 24/7 studio access via key code, convenient monthly payments, and on-site storage.
