This class will continue to explore the basics of the beloved art of watercolor painting. Learn color mixing, techniques for using washes, and good compositional aspects, and apply your learning to a variety of interesting subjects. Come and enjoy the fun and creative process of painting with watercolor!
Supply List (students must bring to class):
Paper: Arches 140 lb cold-pressed watercolor paper- three small 7 1/2 x 11" size and four 11 x 15" size sheets
Paints:* Winsor & Newton or Windsor & Newton Cotman small tubes: Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, and Ultramarine Blue (warmer tones)
; Alizarin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, and Cerulean or Prussian Blue (cooler tones); plus: Burnt Sienna, Payne’s gray
*These colors are suggestions-If you already have tube watercolors, bring whatever colors you have purchased.
Brushes: Princeton Select, Robert Simmons synthetic, or Silver brush Black Velvet series 3008 (blend of natural and synthetic)
-Flats: 1 inch and 1/2 inch
-Rounds: size #2 or #4 and a size #8 or #10
-One “rigger” brush (long thin brush)
Palette: any white plastic or enamel tray, at least 9 by 12 or larger (Mijello Fusion Palette or the like) or white styrofoam trays work great
Other Materials: paper towels, masking tape, spray bottle - 4 to 6 oz., #2 pencil and kneaded eraser, small sketch pad or drawing paper sheets, plastic containers for water (quart size), old toothbrush, old credit card or stiff cardboard
