Anyone who wears jeans is familiar with the beautiful blues that result from dyeing with indigo. However, achieving these hues can be a challenge. This dye starts blue, turns yellow, then green, before it returns to its trademark blue. Learn how to achieve rich color with this chemically complex dye. If you are a quilter, sewer or other fiber artist, learning to work with indigo increases your creative options. Or if you just want to play with this medium, this is a great class!
Participants may bring three personal items* to dye including apparel or small home goods. Possibilities include tee shirts, pillow cases, a summer dress, linen pants, scarves, tote bags or table napkins. The items don’t have to be new, nor do they have to be white, but they should be a natural fiber such as cotton, linen or silk. The process of dying can be messy, so wear clothing that you don’t mind dripping dye on.
*Note: Although we can’t accommodate large and heavy items such as bedding and rugs, depending on time and enrollment, we may be able to dye additional personal items.
