Children’s Clay

Mudlarks (Ages 6-9)

This class focuses on learning fundamental skills to create many different styles of clay projects. You will learn about coil building, slab work, and sculptural techniques. Students will also learn a variety of methods to decorate and glaze their creations. Each week will feature a different structured project along with time for independent exploration.

Claybirds (Ages 10-13)

This class focuses on teaching the fundamentals of hand-building techniques as well as the beginning steps of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Students will also learn a variety of methods to decorate, carve, and glaze their creations. Each week will feature a different structured project along with time for independent exploration.

Teen / Adult Clay

Potters Medley (Ages 18+)

Students learn hand-building and wheel-throwing along with other decorative techniques that include slip decorating, carving, and glazing. Structured projects will be provided along with time for independent exploration. All clay and pottery tools are provided and included in tuition cost.

Continuing Wheel (Ages 18+)

Now that you have the basic skills under your belt, it’s time to move on to more advanced techniques such as faceting, alteration, creating composite pots and lidded vessels , pulling handles, and so much more. All clay and pottery tools are provided and included in the tuition cost.

Sculpture

This class will focus on making anthropomorphic forms and sculptures. Together we will investigate the fascination with the blending of animals and humans and its impact on culture.

Family Clay

This workshop is designed to accommodate families who want to create together. Up to three people can work on a single project for one fee. Ages 4-8 must be accompanied by an adult and  Ages 8+ can attend unaccompanied or with an adult.

Birdhouse (Ages 4+)

Using slab and applique techniques your family will create a wonderful keepsake to place in your garden or home.

Children’s Clay Workshop

Sculpting Sasquatch (Ages 9+)

Prepare to have your own Big Foot sighting at Wayne Center for the Arts as we sculpt the elusive Yeti out of clay. This is a great opportunity to explore sculpture for both the novice and experienced artist.

UNCorked Clay

Sugar Skull (Adults)

Pottery Open Studio

In order t o provide our pottery/ceramics students with additional studio time, as well as give the general public time to use our facilities, we hold several Open Studio sessions a week. A Wayne Center for the Arts representative is present during all Open Studio sessions to assist those wishing to use the facility. Other than scheduled classes and Open Studio times, our pottery/ceramics studios are not available for use. Open Studio sessions are free to members and those currently enrolled in a pottery/ceramics class. For all others, the cost is $12.00 for each 2 hour session Clay is available during Open Studio sessions. For those currently enrolled in a pottery class, the first 5 lbs. each week are free. The cost of clay for members as well as students needing additional clay is $10.00 for 10 lbs. Clay for non-students and non-members is $15.00 for 10 lbs.

Kiln Firing Policy

Our average turn-around time upon completion of a class, workshop, or event is three weeks. If volume is high, or pieces to be fired are large, the turn-around time may be longer.

Open Studio Times
