Summer Dance

Dance

Wayne Center for the Arts dance programs are based on the principle that in order for young people to become well-rounded people, they need substantial expore to the arts which includes dance.  Our vision is to inspire and prepare the next generation of dancers by exposing them to different styles and approaches.  We offer two dance programs that provide stimulating, well-rounded educational experiences. The Community School of Dance and The Pre-Professional School of Dance are designed to provide dance lessons for all types of dance students.

The Curriculum for Both Schools of Dance

The comprehensive syllabus used by The Wayne Center for the Arts for the ballet program was created by Mia Klinger and is based on the teaching of Nan Klinger (Excellence in Dance), Leslie Hench, and Marcia Dale Weary (both of Centeral Pennsylvania Youth Ballet). The syllabus is designed to develop technically strong, expressive dancers and adults who excel in life.  The modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and tap syllabus comes from Kimberly Payne, dance coordinator and is aimed at inspiring life-long enjoyment and participation in the dance community.

This modern dance course will highlight the modern dance techniques developed by Isadora Duncan, José Limón, and Jennifer Muller. These ideas can be illustrated in the way a dancer uses the floor as a place from which to rise, return to, and then rise again. The way a dancer explores the range of movement between the one extreme of freedom from gravity and the other of falling into it.
