Pottery

Wayne Center for the Arts is dedicated to visual arts programming that offers artistic opportunity and support to artists and aspiring artists in a variety of media, age ranges, and skill groups. Our united philosophy is to provide classes designed for creative exploration through an ongoing educational framework of fine arts language, imagery, and materials. This framework provides cross-disciplinary classes with content informed by the Ohio Department of Education Visual Arts Standards and the National Standards for Arts Education.

  • Register for two class sessions and get 5% off the second class.  Register for 3 sessions and get 10% off the third class.
  • Register and prepay by December 31 and receive 10% off total tuition.  Financial Aid and Scholarship opportunities may be available for dance classes.
  • Payment plans: If you wish to make monthly payments and additional 10% will be added to the total tuition amount.  Payments are due by the 15th of February, March, April and May.  All accounts that are not paid in full by February 15 will be charged the monthly payment rate.
  • Some classes may require students to purchase supplies. If so, a list will be provided upon registration.

This class focuses on developing fundamental skill levels by

learning to hand-build as well as the beginning steps of

throwing on the potter’s wheel. Students will also learn a

variety of methods to decorate, carve, and glaze their

creations. Each week will feature a different structured

project along with time for independent exploration.

INSPIRATION STUDIO AGES 10-13

This class focuses on teaching the fundamentals of clay

properties and techniques used in wheel-throwing and handbuilding

to all skill levels. Students will also learn decorative

skills including glazing and various carving and surface

techniques. Structured projects will be created and there will

also be time for independent exploration. All clay and pottery

tools are provided and included in the tuition cost.

Learn all the skills to create your first pots on the potter’s

wheel. Wedging, centering, opening, throwing, trimming,

adding handles and glazing will be covered in this class. We

will create simple forms such as bowls, vases, and mugs. This

class is for the beginner as well as the intermediate student.

Have you ever wanted to learn the basics of wheel-throwing?

Are you a current artist looking to improve your wheel game?

This is the class for you! We will start with a basic form of

bowls and vases and progress to mugs and cups. We will also

move beyond functional pottery to a variety of sculpting

along with beginning glaze techniques and so much more.

Learn to approach your work from both realistic and

imaginary angles as you gain sculptural skills that can be

applied in many different ways. Focusing studies on human

and animal forms, students will learn the foundations of

technical skill needed to interject personality in their work.

Now that you have your basic skills under your belt, it’s time

to move on to more advanced techniques such as faceting,

alteration, creating composite pots, pulling handles, lidded

vessels and so much more. All clay and pottery tools are
