artsOUTLET (grades 3-9)

artsOUTLET is a scholarship program offered for free to students enrolled in programs offered by our participating partner organizations. This program provides an outlet for expression in order to foster a life-long appreciation for the arts as well as preparation for future careers and higher education. Our varied studio courses develop critical thinking skills and offer opportunities for experiential learning, individualized mentoring and portfolio development. Courses are offered in an environment that celebrates success and instills pride, personal value and hope.

Students who are referred by, or currently participate in programming provided by, the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, ANAZAO, Alice Noble, the Counseling Center, Every Woman’s House, Community Action Partnership, Wooster City Schools and the Wooster Community Hospital are eligible to attend artsOUTLET free of charge. All other students wishing to participate in artsOUTLET programming must pay regular tuition rates or apply for financial aid.  ($160 Nonmembers $140 Members)

Earth Art (GRADES 3-4)  Register NowFerness-Highlands-Scotland-3
Nature has always provided artists with inspiration, as well as supplies. In this artsOUTLET session, students will use materials such as plants, sand, rocks, clay and shells to produce art works that celebrate the beauty of the earth. There’s no end to what the earth supplies artists. Let the natural world teach you about color, texture,
composition and imagination. Taught by WCA Visual Arts Faculty



The Artful Machine: Rube Goldberg (GRADES 5-6)  Register Nowrube 1
Have you ever imagined an ingenious way to end the life of the mosquito that buzzes around your head or maybe you want to trap that adorable little mouse that hides under the refrigerator? Then you can identify with cartoonist Rube Goldberg and his comical, intricate inventions contrived to perform a simple task. Start by
drawing a cartoon, then transform it into a three dimensional replica of your drawing. Come prepared for a learning adventure that explores where art meets engineering. Taught by Sharon Tomassetti and Jake Nelson



Art Journaling (GRADES 7-9)  Register Nowart journaling
Looking to express yourself in a new and inspiring way? Join the throngs of people who have discovered the joy of art journaling which combines art AND words. There really aren’t any rules for art journaling which makes this course fun! Combine papermaking, bookbinding, writing, drawing and collage techniques. Delve into
a new theme each week and craft a unique and creative record of your thoughts, feelings and ideas in a book as unique as you – the artist who created it. Famous artists such as van Gogh, Picasso and DaVinci were prolific art journal keepers so you are in good company! Taught by WCA Visual Arts Faculty
