Youth Ensemble Theatre (ages 8+)

 

Students enrolled in any ongoing theater class or lesson at Wayne Center for the Arts are considered members of the Youth Ensemble Theatre Company. Company members with seniority (students enrolled in previous sessions) and in good standing (good attendance, punctuality, responsible) will be given priority casting in productions. The Youth Ensemble Theatre Company will umbrella all Wayne Center for the Arts theater productions which will consist of at least one Theatre Showcase and one major performance production.

 

Financial Aid and/or Scholarships  are available for all of our classes to assist with tuition costs!

Classes

Laugh Riot (AGES 8-11)   Register Now!
Saturdays 10:00am – 11:30am
12 weeks: January 30 – April 23 (No class March 26)

Do you love to make people laugh? Do you love to laugh yourself?  Through pratfalls, improv, and theatre games, you will use your imagination, voice, and body to explore comedy and storytelling skills. We will take a look at classic comedy sketches from theater, film, and television. The class will culminate in a Spring Showcase performance at WCA on May 7th at 2:00pm. Taught by Ryan Zarecki

Musical Theatre (AGES 8-11)   Register Now!

15 weeks: January 21 – May 5 (No class March 24)

Do you to love to sing, dance, and act? Using storytelling, music, and jazz, this class will help you put all three together in a fun and creative environment while exploring classical and contemporary musicals and will introduce students to learning music, acting through the song, and keeping character while dancing. The class
will culminate in a Spring Showcase performance at WCA on May 7th at 2:00pm. Taught by Katie Zarecki

Intro to Musical Theatre Tap (AGES 11+)   Register Now!

Have you always wanted to learn how to tap? Do you love theatre and want to take your training to the next level? Then this Musical Theatre Tap class is for you! Bring your tap shoes and explore the choreography of famous tap numbers from Broadway shows and the fundamental steps that make them iconic. We will have you
shuffling off to Buffalo in no time! This class culminates in a showing of a musical number in the Spring Showcase performance at WCA on May 7th at 2:00pm Taught by Katie Zarecki

Voice and Movement (AGES 12-18)   Register Now!
Tuesdays 6:30pm – 8:00pm
15 weeks: January 12 – April 26 (No class March 22)

Are you ready to take your acting to the next level? Students will explore physical theater styles such as mask, mime, and devised theater, while strengthening and stretching their speaking voices. Students will utilize these teachings to work on monologues and short scenes. Culminates in a sharing of scenes, monologues, and other work in the Spring Showcase performance at WCA on May 7th at 2:00pm. Taught by Katie Zarecki

Acting the Song (AGES 12-18)   Register Now!

Do you love to sing? Students will increase their acting range and improve their singing technique working on solo and group songs. By exploring the world of their song, telling the story, and connecting with other actors, the students will be able to ace their next audition with their new piece. Culminates in a showing of a musical number in the Spring Showcase performance at WCA on May 7th at 2:00pm. Taught by Katie Zarecki

Actor’s Studio: Stage Combat (AGES 12-18)   Register Now!

Students will learn the basics of hand to hand stage combat technique the first 6 weeks including slaps, punches, kicks, and hair pulls. The final 6 weeks students will learn the beginnings of single sword technique. Students will create scripted scenarios and learn to perform a realistic, safe fight. Class culminates in a showing of a fight scene in the Spring Showcase performance at WCA on May 7th at 2:00pm. Taught by Ryan Zarecki

Workshops

Two Day Actor’s Studio Workshop (Grades 7-12)   Register Now!

Acting Fundamentals & Character Creation
Wednesdays January 6 & January 13 6:30pm – 8:30pm
$50 Nonmembers $40 Members
This class is great for beginning and seasoned actors alike. Session 1 covers the fundamentals of acting and will strengthen your stage presence, vocal projection and physical choices by utilizing theatre improve techniques and voice and movement exercises. Not only will this class help you be a strong actor, but it will help you become
a strong scene partner by teaching you the importance of active listening and always saying “yes and’. Session 2 covers character creation and will begin with helping you break down personal habits and acting tics as well as finding you “Neutral”. The neutral base will then be used to create characters from the ground up. We will utilize given circumstances, centered, objective and two acting techniques (Stanislavsky and Checkov) to help us create believable and dynamic characters.

Perfect your comedy and acting skills in this fun workshop.  Students will use theater games, parodies, and unscripted scenes to strengthen their quick thinking, problem solving, and character choices in shows. Students will utilize this game based workshop to push big choices with their bodies and voices. Taught by Ryan Zarecki

 

Private and Small Group Coaching

Acting, Voice and Musical Theatre

Students may work with theatre faculty to cover basic to advanced acting technique, musical theatre, audition preparation, voice, speech/dialects, acting the song and scene study. Coaching is scheduled with a specific instructor and lessons can be weekly throughout the semester or for a specific number of sessions.
